I am 38 and just have a high school diploma. I do want to get a college degree but worry that when I finish I would have a dept that I really couldn’t afford and will have regreted going in the first place.

I have applyed for grants but it seems everytime I do I get the letter they have run out of money, (does that happen) or that I make to much. I make 8 an hour at 40 hours a week. Is that too much to get help with paying for school?

what do I do.. ?

Kitchen Decor Themes

Alex D asked:

I would like to be a professional helicopter pilot someday. The only problem is that training is very very expensive. Usually about a minumum of $50,000. I cannot afford this. There are not very many financial programs that would finance this training, and those that do will only finance a small portion. If, however, there was a college degree incorporating a helicopter training program (maybe a Bachelors of Science in Aviation), federal financial aid might cover the expenses. Any suggestions?

Vinyl Log Siding

BigDog7458 asked:

I am curious as to general opinion why most companies select position candidates based on a college degree as compared to years of practical experience? From a financial aspect, an experienced individual may command a higher entry salary, however, the practical experience should offset the cost by reducing the time of the learning curve as well as provide a source for historical information attained at other organizations.

This situation happens quite often in the business and manufacturing worlds. For example, I have worked with a major automotive manufacturer for over ten years. This manufacturer will not hire anyone (low level to upper management) without a degree, period. However, they currently have people in positions that significantly affect the financial success of the company, simply because they have a degree. There are individuals that have degrees in Physical Education, Literature and Psychology performing duties in areas of quality and engineering. How does this make business sense? The degree got them in the door, however, their practical experience acquired has allowed them to skate by to this point. Does this not support the argument of practical experience over classroom experience? After all, anyone currently functioning in a given industry would conceivably be up-to-date with current technology in any regard.
