Why is a college degree more valued than experiance?

Im finding more and more in the world that companies require a college degree (usually at least a B.S.) in place of real world experiance. I am currently a college junior (electrical engineering) and have friends who have already graduated. They are getting jobs over people with 10+ years experiance and only an associates degree or no degree at all. Comparing what I have learned in college to what I have learned in my internship, I would say field experiance is much more valuable than book learning.

You don’t use anything you learn in college. College is just a means to prove yourself and develop problem solving skills, if you have a real major (business majors need not apply). I graduated with a mechanical engineering degree and haven’t done a calculus problem, or a problem relating to any other jabberwocky class I took, since I graduated.

What someone before me said regarding “sorting” is 100% correct. Also, it proves that you are willing to commit yourself to something substantial, and that you are committed to personal development which employers also want to see, if they are going to invest in you they want to know that you are willing to invest into yourself.
